Classes
Get loads of design bang with relatively little weaving effort with this gorgeous color and weave effect scarf. Using 5 colors and a basic plain weave structure, an almost infinite number of color block combinations are achieved. The sample here is woven using bamboo fiber (lace weight) and silk (sewing thread weight) creating a smooth and soft drape. Yarn is available to purchase if needed. Class is held over 2 days, 2 hours each day, with a day off in between.

The wavy lines in a Honeycomb weave are created using pick up sticks and are the result of areas of plain weave contrasting with warp and weft ends floating over and under the fabric. Adding color interest accentuates the effect. The sample here is woven using 5 colors of Purl Soho’s Pocket Posey yarn, but any sport, fingering, or lace weight yarn will work well. Pattern is available with class.

Agnus Martin Scarf
This is a great project to try out fine cotton and linen yarns and is a very easy weave. It is a lightweight summer scarf Designed by Mariah Gaar for GIST: Yarn & Fiber and is a free pattern available to download. The soft hues and crisscrossed stripes throughout the cloth are reminiscent of paintings by abstract expressionist Agnes Martin.

General information about classes: BYOY - Bring your own yarn. We have a small selection of yarns for sale. Class size is limited to 4 people. Minimum of 2 sign-ups are needed for a class run. Loom rental is available for $30 per week. The Studio is conveniently located in the Santa Monica Mid City neighborhood. As it is a private residence the exact address, along with parking information, will be shared when you sign up for a class.
